About the EAPP

The EAPP was established in 2005, when the Governments of the Eastern African countries on February 24, 2005 signed a memorandum of understanding, the Inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding (IGMOU), to establish the Eastern African Power Pool (EAPP), one organ of which is the IRB.

IRB is mandated to provide fair and effective regulatory services to facilitate the development and efficient operation of the regional Electricity market in Eastern Africa and ensure a conducive environment for regional infrastructure investments, with the aim of enhancing regional power trade and expanding access to reliable, affordable Electricity, among others.

The IRB is currently hosted by Uganda, through the Electricity Regulatory Authority, at its premises along Shimoni Road – Nakasero.
