The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) held a Public Hearing in respect to an Application for a License Exemption by Equatorial Power Limited, to construct, generate and sell electricity from the proposed 550kWp and 80Kw solar power plant and a diesel generator in Butanira Village, Lolwe Island, Namayingo District.
The Public Hearing, held at Goloofa Church of Uganda on Lolwe Island was attended by over 400 islanders and the Namayingo District Local Government Leadership.
ERA convened the Public Hearing to receive views from the island community in respect to the establishment of the project.
At the Hearing, Mr. Joseph Mugendadda, who represented the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) applauded the project, noting that it shall foster economic development on the island. He thanked ERA for considering the application by Equatorial Power and requested the Community to support the project.
The Manager Communications at ERA, Mr. Julius Wandera who presided over the Public Hearing noted that the views received at the Public Hearing would be considered alongside the other application requirements in the process of arriving at a decision by the board. The Project affected persons unanimously welcomed the project.
