{"id":3247,"date":"2022-05-09T14:57:37","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T14:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hostalitecloud.com\/era\/?p=3247"},"modified":"2025-01-29T14:58:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T14:58:35","slug":"ugandas-era-hosts-african-electricity-regulatory-peer-review-and-learning-network-prln","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hostalitecloud.com\/era\/ugandas-era-hosts-african-electricity-regulatory-peer-review-and-learning-network-prln\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda\u2019s ERA hosts African Electricity Regulatory Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda\u2019s Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is hosting Five (5) Executives for the African Electricity Regulatory Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN) from 9<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0to 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Executives drawn from Five (5) African Countries are: Mr. Daniel Bargoria of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority of Kenya (EPRA), Mr. Nhlanhla Gumede, a Full-Time Regulator Member of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), Pinehas Mutota, General Manager of the Economic Regulation of the Electricity Control Board of Namibia (ECB), Paolo Da Graca, Chairperson of the Board of the Energy Regulatory Authority of Mozambique (ARENE), and Dr. Ishmael Ackah, the Executive Secretary for the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ghana (PURC).<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Industry Captains, supported by the University of Cape Town (UCT) Power Futures Lab, in collaboration with the European Global Energy Transformation Programme (GET-Transform), will undertake a comprehensive One Week review in Uganda; interviewing major stakeholders in the Sector, examining regulatory governance, substance, and impacts, and presenting their findings and recommendations at the end of the review.<\/p>\n<p>The Objectives of the Peer Review and Learning Network are two-fold:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To enhance leadership and management capability among African Electricity Regulators (leading to increased credibility, transparency, and robustness of regulatory decisions); and,<\/li>\n<li>To enhance overall investment and development outcomes through improved performance of the continent\u2019s Electricity Industry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Learning is achieved through conducting in-depth peer reviews of the regulatory systems in each of the selected countries. The Peer Review and Learning Network Members include Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>The One Week Workshop is part of the continental efforts facilitated under the African Union for Harmonisation of Regulatory Frameworks. It will discuss issues relating to Regulatory Governance, Regulatory Substance and Regulatory Impact.<\/p>\n<p>The Peer Review and Learning Network Workshop in Uganda comes at a time when Uganda\u2019s Electricity Regulatory Framework has been ranked as Africa\u2019s best across a number of key metrics for Four (4) Consecutive times in the African Development Bank\u2019s Electricity Regulatory Index for Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUganda topping the rankings consecutively for Four years comes as no surprise to many, as the regulator spends significant time on consultation and analysis, including regulatory impact assessments of key interventions and follow-through to ensure full implementation,\u201d said Wale Shonibare, the Director for Energy Financial Solutions, Policy and Regulation of the African Development Bank.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda\u2019s Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is hosting Five (5) Executives for the African Electricity Regulatory Peer Review and Learning Network (PRLN) from 9th\u00a0to 14th\u00a0May 2022.
