In rural Uganda,\u00a0agriculture is the backbone of household income, for both young and old people. But for too long, youth in districts like\u00a0Mityana and Kassanda\u00a0have struggled to turn their hard work into sustainable profit.<\/p>

While\u00a0urban food prices rise, rural farmers often sell their produce at\u00a0low prices, mainly to local middlemen, because they lack access to bigger markets, value enhancement, storage, or transportation. Without value addition, market information, or business skills,\u00a0youth are stuck in a cycle of low earnings and limited opportunity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Empowering Youth Beyond the Farm Gate<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Through a multi-pronged approach, TeamUp is helping youth go beyond basic farming and\u00a0tap into more profitable value chains. Whether it\u2019s drying beans, branding honey, or packaging produce for urban markets,\u00a0value addition is becoming a game-changer.<\/p>

Youth groups are being trained not just to grow, but to\u00a0process, package, and promote\u00a0their products. These skills mean better shelf life, higher-quality goods, and stronger bargaining power in the market.<\/p>

\u201cBefore TeamUp, we sold fresh produce at low prices. Now, we dry and package produce and sell them at a better price. TeamUp is working to break the isolation that rural youth face by building\u00a0market linkages\u00a0that connect them to buyers, cooperatives, and trade associations. This means:<\/p>

  • Market analysis\u00a0to identify profitable value chains<\/li>
  • Mentorship and business coaching\u00a0for youth entrepreneurs<\/li>
  • Communication and marketing training\u00a0for Youth Facilitating Field Staff (YFFS)<\/li>
  • Preparation for trade shows and mobile markets<\/li>
  • Support for digital marketing and e-commerce<\/li><\/ul>

    TeamUp is establishing value addition facilities in strategic locations. To serve as hubs for processing, storage, training, and trade, reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring that youth farmers can meet the standards of larger markets.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
