Driving Youth Leadership and Joint Enterprises<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Youth Empowerment Centres (YECs) serve as core implementation hubs established by TeamUp program. These Centres operate at the sub-county level in Mityana and Kasanda districts, with a coordinated structure comprising a General Assembly and an Executive Committee responsible for day-to-day operations guided by a shared work plan. Representation across TeamUp sectors of agriculture, water and health ensures inclusivity.<\/p>

The YECs play a critical role in coordinating youth structures (Youth farmer field schools, groups and clubs), serving as learning hubs, mobilizing resources, linking youth to health and financial services, supporting project implementation, and monitoring youth activities. There are 12 YECs, each serving youth in one subcounty.<\/p>

YECs are formally registered with the local government as a Community-Based Organisations (CBO). The YECs maintain active collaboration with the Community Development Officer (CDO) and other local government leaders.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Youth-Led Enterprises for Self-Sustainability<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

TeamUp\u2019s approach isn’t just about participation. It\u2019s about\u00a0empowerment through entrepreneurship. With grants through A4HU and local investment from youth groups, the YECs are running promising youth-owned and youth-managed businesses that generate income and employment.<\/p>

Here are some success stories from the field:<\/p>

  • Kamuli Youth Agro Produce Dealers, now valued at\u00a0UGX 14 million, is one of the largest enterprises managed by a YEC business committee.<\/li>
  • Kakindu Kewerimidde Agro Input Enterprise holds capital of\u00a0UGX 9.8 million.<\/li>
  • Butayunja Agro Input & Climate Change Ambassadors Enterprise\u00a0employs full-time staff and is diversifying its revenue by acting as a\u00a0stockist for BEES commodities.<\/li>
  • SYEC Pads\u00a0in Ssekanyonyi subcounty is steadily increasing productivity in menstrual hygiene products, meeting an urgent community need.<\/li>
  • A\u00a0branding business in central Banda supported by quarterly profits.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    To promote sustainability and\u00a0collective ownership, the YECs are now\u00a0selling shares to youth clubs\u00a0in their agro-input shops. This model generates revenue through dividends and nurtures accountability and engagement.<\/p>

    \u201cWhen youth buy shares, they\u2019re not just investing in a business\u2014they\u2019re investing in their future. It teaches responsibility, financial literacy, and teamwork,\u201d<\/em>Says Peter Kaweesa, a member of Kakindu YEC.<\/p>

    YECs submit\u00a0monthly business performance reports, and all transactions are recorded and accessible, ensuring\u00a0transparency\u00a0for youth investors and stakeholders. Despite being in the early stages, some enterprises are already turning a profit.<\/p>

    With plans to engage more\u00a0private sector partners,\u00a0youth groups, and\u00a0local companies, the Youth Empowerment Centres are positioning themselves as\u00a0community-owned institutions for sustainable youth-led development.
