TeamUp Uganda is a cross-sectoral approach to development cooperation initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and managed as well as co-financed through three foundations, Deutsche StiftungWeltbev\u00f6lkerung (DSW), Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) and Siemens Stiftung. Three local organizations, Action 4 Health Uganda (A4HU), Hanns R. TeamUp applies a holistic approach that integrates socio-economic, health, educational and infrastructural aspects to enable young people between the ages of 15-30 years to be economically productive, take part in public life and policy development, and lead healthy, self-determined lives.<\/p>

TeamUp started as a pilot program in five sub-counties of Mityana District in September 2018. The pilot phase reached about 50,000 young people and ended in April 2022. In September 2022, the program expanded to cover ten sub-counties in Mityana and two in Kassanda district. The current phase will be concluded in April 2026.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Target population<\/strong><\/p>

Our primary target population is young people aged 15 to 30 years. In total, TeamUp aims to reach 9,024 direct beneficiaries and about 290,000 indirect beneficiaries across five districts including Mityana, Kassanda, Nakaseke, Kyegegwa and Kikuube by April 2026. The target population includes out-of-school and in-school youth, young farmers, and youth in water and sanitation committees. Indirect beneficiaries total 27,300 in agriculture, 187,500 in water and 5,000 in health.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Improving Livelihood Prospects for Young People in rural Uganda<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest growing populations worldwide and as a result, faces significant challenges in meeting the needs of the youth. The Uganda Youth Policy of 2016 recognises that youth development is severely constrained by poverty, inadequate education and skills, and limited work opportunities.<\/p>

Due to Mityana district\u2019s proximity to Kampala city, rural \u2013 urban migration is a major problem. This leads to missed development opportunities that would directly be beneficial to the youth and the District in general. The youth need to be equipped with the right skills in order to fulfil their potential in a rural context.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

To achieve these goals, the program is working in three thematic areas:<\/p>

  1. Improving health with specific focus on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and problems related to unsafe water sources, sanitation and hygiene that impede youth development<\/li>
  2. Improving the economic situation of youth and their families through agri-business and entrepreneurship support and,<\/li>
  3. Enabling youth to make their voices heard in decision-making processes.<\/li><\/ol>
