The 2nd National Microfinance and Savings Group Conference 2024

The National Microfinance and Savings Group Conference, was organized by the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development in collaboration with AMFIU and other stakeholders in the microfinance industry. The conference took place from 17th to 18th, July 2024 at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The conference ran under the theme “Leveraging Collaborations, Partnerships and Promoting a Savings Culture to Foster Social Economic Transformation. Building upon the outcomes of the previous conference, this event aimed to further explore how stakeholders can align their development objectives.

Over the course of the two-day conference, participants engaged in discussions on various high-level topics and industry developments related to Microfinance and Savings Groups Ecosystems. The agenda for each day was tailored to address specific aspects of the industry, with the first day focusing on key stakeholders and the second day highlighting best practices, success stories, and case studies from institutions like MFIs, SACCOs, and Savings Groups. Notable attendees included representatives from government programs such as PROFIRA, EMYOOGA, and PDM, as well as organizations like Care International in Uganda, Plan International, and Caritas Uganda. These stakeholders, who hold significant roles in the microfinance and savings group sectors, shared their experiences, documented best practices, and showcased success stories.

The conference aimed to facilitate dialogue among government entities, development partners, bankers, and microfinance practitioners to discuss advancements in the microfinance industry and explore avenues for sustainable financial inclusion. Topics of discussion encompassed digital financial inclusion, gender and social protection in finance, consumer protection and financial literacy, partnerships and collaborations, and the role of microfinance in climate finance.
