ICT in Education Program
- Why
The ICT in Education program implemented by the Uganda Communications Universal Services and Access Fund aims to contribute towards achieving several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the program seeks to provide learners with digital skills (SDG 4 – Quality Education), enhance teaching quality (SDG 4 – Quality Education), increase learning engagement (SDG 4 – Quality Education), promote creativity and innovation through collaborative use of ICTs (SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), integrate ICTs in mainstream disciplines (SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), raise awareness of the importance of ICTs for sustainability (SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 13 – Climate Action), empower school hosting communities (SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities), and promote inclusive learning for learners with disabilities (SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities).
- How
UCUSAF has implemented this through installation of School ICT Labs and Digital Science content in secondary schools, supporting the creation of ICT Clubs in these secondary schools, Conducting Teacher ICT skilling in these secondary schools and creation of an E-learning Platform to leverage learning.
- Impact
The integration of ICT in education has led to improved performance in STEMS (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) due to better interactive learning tools, illustrative learning, access to diverse content, and its incorporation into the secondary curriculum.
