UCUSAF -
Internet Connectivity Program
Educational Institutions & Custom Border Points
- Why
The goal of this program is to promote research-based learning, provide timely access to diverse information and knowledge, and enhance interactive teaching and learning experiences. Additionally, UCUSAF aims to take affirmative action to bring down the cost of internet for educational institutions and to support customs e-government services and provide internet access to unserved border communities. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education (SDG 4), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9), and peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16).
- How
This program has been implemented through provision of subsidized internet to Schools ICT labs as well as tertiary institutions through the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) Network and installation of free Wi-Fi Hotspots at Border Points.
- Impact
UCUSAF’s initiatives have had a positive impact on education and public service delivery by improving performance in STEMS through better interactive learning tools, illustrative learning, and access to diverse content. Additionally, UCUSAF promotes collaborative learning between educational institutions to bridge the quality gap and has increased efficiency in public service provision at customs. Finally, UCUSAF’s efforts have resulted in increased usage of government e-services. These impacts align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education (SDG 4), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9), and peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16).
